I came to Mysore for my graduation , I joined BSc in NIE college and in spite having many close relatives in Mysore, my brother suggested me to join any of the good hostel.
So searching good hostels in Mysore ,we found our community hostel i e
Sri Sharada Niketana Vidyarthi Nilaya - In short we called " SHANIVINI ".
I Joined Sharada Niketana hostel on 1st july 2004, still i remember that day, i went to register my name in students list in room no 8 , Srikanth and vivek were prefectors at that month.
Then for me room number 3 is alloted , I went to my room to keep my luggage at 8.30 in monday morning , already 2 students were sleeping in the bed (i e Pradeep(TP) and Shivakumar) and one more guy is sleeping in floor (Kull manju), and one more guy dressing neatly to go to college (i e Venu).
After seen all these things, I feel really uncomfortable in my first day at hostel but that was first and last day, i felt like that in my 3 years of hostel life.
There are total 17 rooms in our hostel,so that it can accommodate 50 students,so when i joined,that year it was full of students with different talents and are came from different parts of state.
In my first year,my room mates were Venu from H.D.Kote and Nandeesha from chamarajnagar.
After that Akash,Balaji and krishna were also my room mates.
In the history of new shanivini, room no 3 has got very special place than any other rooms in the hostel,since it is like meeting place for all the students,a conference room , many discussions were happening, etc etc etc.
In my words it was like General ward in super speciality hospital.Believe me we have never locked our room in three years.
I am very proud to be in that room till my hostel life.
Many Thanks to Nandeesha, since he only cleaned our room for almost two years.
In our hostel,we were having enough time to play Cricket,Volleyball & to watch films.Here goes some of snap shots of our cricketing and volleyball playing moments.
Shanivini Cinema Hall : Watch a film only at Rs 2
This was really a worth offer in our hostel,This is how the process goes.
At that time there are only 5 computers in our hostel, so you can watch film only 5 different room (theaters).
Some one will get a CD/DVD of the film from outside for rent.
All are invited for the film, interested people will join to watch the film.
finally 2 Rs will be collected from people who watched film.
So finally you can watch a movie only in Rs 2.
Special discount offer :
There is no charge for the owner of the computer and also for the room mates where the movie played.
Most of the times many students will make profits and spend that in snacks/tea.
If 15 ppl watch the film then you will get 30 Rs,but cd cost only 10/15 rest all are profit.
If you can take good/new films then you can make good profit.
It was really superb experience that, we were more than 25 students watched few movies in a small room.
Ganesh Chaturti Celebration :
It is good practice that we are celebrating ganesh chaturthi in our hostel.
Every year we kept ganesha idol and did pooja for 5 days then immersing into the water.
All the rooms should participate in ganesh chaturti celebration and contribute towards ganapathi prasada. Each day 2-3 rooms merge together and contributing for ganapathi prasada.
Final day one round of procession with ganesha idol and then immersing into the water.
Chandan was the head priest to do all the pooja activities.
Traffic Jam for Bathrooms and toilets in peak Hours :
In our hostel , there are 5 bathrooms and 4 toilets are there, so obviously in the peak hours(7.30 to 9 AM) there will be a rush for getting bathrooms and toilets.
As usual students used to reserve their bathrooms by putting their buckets but no reservation for toilets except waiting in front of door.
Many times 2-3 students took bath in single bathroom and some students enjoying bath in open space with different different songs.
some mischiefs by putting cold water onto to people who taking bath in beside bathroom,taking hot water and replacing with cold water bucket etc.
You may get a chance to listen many songs, different languages, in different voices in a single place that is Shanivini bathroom.

New Year Celebration - Ragging Day :
Lot of young students so obviously we do celebrate new year.
by collecting a reasonable amount from all the students for celebration and also for food/Soft drinks/Snacks arrangements.
At night 12'o clock we all are exchanging new year wishes with lots of dancing,singing then starts the actual programme for the new year.
In Shanivini we do Raging only on new year day, don't worry it wont be too harsh its just to do simple things in different way that's it.
All the juniors (joined in the present year) has asked to come front then all the students and seniors will ask the question or ask to do some thing.
He should answer the question or should do what ever they had asked. no other option.
Birthday Celebration - 26th Mar 2006:
We are not celebrating birthdays in hostel , but it depends on the room mates and other hostel friends how they wanted to celebrate birthdays.
My birthday had celebrated in this way in 2006.
On March 25th mid night 12 o clock, we all are simply chatting as we do regularly, and i don't have any clues that my room mate and other students had planned to celebrate birthday.
Venu asked me to come out of room and we simply chatting outside my room, suddenly a bucket of water dropped on me from first floor, I was completely wet and then everybody putting water to me, then after they put the remaining sambar of that day......every body wished me and obviously i got so much of Birthday Bumps from most of my friends.
I think i got more than 30 bumps on that day.
It was all over by 12.45 in the night then i took bath coz they put sambar on me.
Finally I entered my room, suddenly Akash,Venu and Kiki (both) had kept one small cake for me.
I cut the cake (The first ever birthday cake i cutted in my life) then they put most of the cake to my face then they gave some greeting card and gift to me.
Thanks a lot venu,Akash,Srikanth & Kiki for celebrating my birthday and created some beautiful memories in my life.
Month end feast :
In Our hostel every month 2-3 students are named as prefectors and they has to co-ordinate with food ,vegetable ,milk etc etc for that particular month.
Finally total amount will be divided for all students.
So, on the last day of the month every prefectors are making the special type of dinner. i e that dinner should be special than any other days in that month.
Specially items should decided by prefectors.
Even that day our Bhatta(Satyanarayan) doing very good and also with different taste than any normal days.
The thithi vade taste is awesome :) :)

The Hostel Day Function :
Every year we do celebrate our hostel day,it's just like how we celebrate our college day.
We had made one students union, and made one guy president and Secretary and also few students union member.
They all are responsible for conducting sports and cultural activities for the students and also responsible to make sharada union function (Hostel Day).
All are elected/selected by students itself.
when I was in hostel, Preetam(uppi) had selected as president and Venu as Secretary of the Sharada Union.
We had conducted many sports and cultural events and also conducted Mysore city inter-hostel Debate competition.
On the day of hostel day, students used to show their talents like skit,song,fashion show,drama etc etc.

Trip to Edakumeri - Trekking on railway track :
We all are decide to go trekking to Edakumeri , i e Sakaleshpura to Subramanya on railway track.
It was really a very very good experience for all of us and enjoyed at the maximum.
We started trekking from from sakaleshpura and started towards Edakumeri a point where we had stayed in night.
It was almost 35 km trek and we had taken all the food with us for 2 complete days.
We had done trekking in Bangalore -mangalore railway track ,as there were no trains at that time and the scenic beauty is really awesome and also walking through the tunnels is a very different experience.
then after that we came down to Gundya then reached back to Mysore.
I am very thankfull all the friends in our hostel who helped me a lot in different aspects.
